What FERPA protects
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act protects personally identifiable information in education records. That includes more than names and ID numbers: family and guardian names, grades, accommodations, disciplinary history and financial aid or lunch status can all identify a student.
DocArmor's Educational Records (FERPA) template covers each of those categories, including the ones that look like routine fields, such as 504 plans and free-lunch status.
Answering a parent's request
A parent may see only the information about their own child (34 CFR 99.12(a)), so other students' details come out wherever they can be separated without losing the record's meaning. Pair the template with a plain-English instruction such as “every student except Jordan Ellis”, and DocArmor redacts every other student on a class roster or incident report.
Reviewed before release
Every finding is reviewed by a person before export. Redacted content is removed and checked on every page, metadata, attachments and form values are stripped, and documents are deleted when you finish, or kept for later only until the time you choose.

FAQ
Education redaction FAQ
Can DocArmor redact all students except one?
Yes. Combine the Educational Records (FERPA) template with a plain-English instruction naming the student whose information should stay, and every other student's details are redacted.
Does it work on scanned report cards and handwritten notes?
Yes. OCR reads scanned and image-only documents, and a reviewer confirms every redaction before the record leaves the district.
